In 1991, the Zwettl Counselling Centre for Women was founded by four women committed to the work of women. The centre was intended to be a contact point for women who seek assistance and counselling regarding a variety of personal circumstances. Over the years it has developed into a well-established counselling and training institution, including two satellite locations in Gmünd and Waidhofen / Thaya as well as a vocational training centre in the town of Groß Siegharts for women in the field of information technology.
To assist and motivate each other in diverse personal situations corresponds to the basic principles of the feminist movement:
Guidelines like "women together are strong" or "the private is political" are still formative for our current style and content of work.
" Counselling by women for women - the staff of the counselling centre with their own experience as women and their based work ethic create a mutual bond.
In addition to social tasks, women's project work always has socio-political tasks:
to bring the problems of women into the public and to stand up for the elimination of those problems
to organize events and to coordinate public relations in diverse media regarding politically relevant issues
networking with other women's projects and with social and municipal institutions
More than 3000 women per year come to the centre with a wide spectrum of concerns. Our main focus is to provide counselling and advice to women and to organize (vocational) continuing education programs.
Over the course of time our programs and services have extended beyond these basic services and have helped the Women's Centre develop into a lively place.
